Our Raw Materials
We use high quality, natural materials for all of our craft workshops. Whenever possible, our priorities are to purchase from Indigenous People, recycled sources and respected suppliers (sourced for over 20 years from the USA, Canada and Australia) who have great respect for the animals and plants. We want to insure that your heartfelt creation will endure the passage of time with integrity and beauty.
We deeply honour that, for some of you, using rawhide and wood can be very disconcerting, if not completely against your beliefs. However, in Native way and the Old Ways, there was a sacred respect and reverance for everything on earth. Prayers and deep honouring were offered throughout all the processes.
In our modern world, while some suppliers do source and hand work their own materials, most craft materials are not necessarily taken in an "honourable way". However, because the Spirit of the animal or tree is still very much a living spirit, we can redeem them through rightful actions. We believe with all our heart that through ceremony, love and creating things of beauty with their offerings, their Spirits rejoice. We know this to be true.
If you have any further questions, please contact us.
(If you cannot work with or are against the use of rawhide and would still like to use a hand drum, then we would suggest purchasing a Buffalo Drum from Remo, as it's surface is a fibreskin. (a polymer combo which also is provided from Mother Earth:-)
